Ema Kammeyer Therapeutic Courtyard

Re-Imagined Courtyard

We are building a new therapeutic courtyard designed to be safe, accessible, and welcoming for all.

This thoughtfully designed outdoor space will support learning, regulation, and connection, offering room for movement, social interaction, and meaningful engagement.

Designed with shaded areas and climate-responsive features, the courtyard will enable year-round use in Arizona’s desert environment.

The courtyard will provide a sensory-informed environment where outdoor therapy and programming can take place, playing an essential role in trauma-informed care.

In addition, it will offer adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities an accessible outdoor setting that encourages mobility, connection, and participation in shared activities.

Named in honor of Easterseals Blake Foundation CEO Ema Kammeyer, whose leadership spanned nearly 40 years.

This courtyard will transform how therapy, programming and community connection happen at Easterseals Blake Foundation.

Current Courtyard

We are raising funds to transform an underused courtyard into a safe, accessible, and inclusive outdoor space. Currently, steps, dense brush, and uneven surfaces limit access for many individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

With Arizona’s year-round sunshine, this space can become a barrier-free environment for children’s outdoor therapy and inclusive programming for individuals of all ages. An accessible courtyard supports sensory regulation, physical movement, social connection, and therapeutic engagement in a natural setting. Your support will fund critical accessibility improvements, transforming an inaccessible area into a place of dignity, healing, and connection.
